What is the difference between separation and divorce?

The state of Tennessee does recognize legal separations.  A legal separation means you are still married, but you are allowed to divide your property and debts much like a divorce.  You are also allowed to establish child support and visitation plans for your children.  You may also create and agreement that provides that future assets and earnings will remain separated however any debt as though you are still married.  As always you should consult a qualified divorce attorney in all divorce or separation matters.
